The Sheehy-House Insufflator is a medical device designed to deliver powdered medications directly into the ear canal. It is commonly used for administering treatments such as antifungal or antibiotic powders for conditions like otitis externa (commonly known as swimmer's ear).

  • Preparation: Ensure the device is clean and dry before use.
  • Loading Medication: Place the prescribed amount of powdered medication into the device's chamber and hold it up-right. Not not overfill as this may clog the device.
  • Hold the device upright and gently tap it if the powder needs to settle before use.
  • Tilt your head to the side so the affected ear is facing up.
  • Insert the nozzle gently just inside the ear canal—do not force it in.
  • Squeeze the bulb gently to puff the powder into the ear—don’t blast it forcefully.
  • Stay in position for 1–2 minutes after applying to let the powder settle.
  • Clean the device after each use to prevent clogs and contamination.
  • Cleaning: After use, disassemble and clean the device according to the manufacturer's instructions.
