Many of the medications we compound are natural in nature, and therefore, cannot be compounded. Furthermore, the average cost of getting a new drug into market can cost upwards of $1 billion dollars. Pharmaceutical companies must choose which drugs fit their portfolios and make most sense for their profitability. In most cases, because of the degree of customization that is needed or smaller market size, drug companies choose not to enter a specific drug market.
