Vaginal Oxytocin

What is Vaginal Oxytocin?

Vaginal oxytocin is a non-estrogen treatment used to improve vaginal moisture, elasticity, and tissue health—especially after menopause. It’s often used as an alternative to estrogen for vaginal dryness and discomfort.

Your doctor prescribed oxytocin vaginal gel, a non-estrogen hormone used to treat vaginal dryness, thinning, and discomfort related to menopause. It helps improve blood flow, tissue healing, and moisture without raising estrogen levels.

Within the first 2 weeks, many patients notice:

  • Less vaginal dryness and irritation
  • Reduced itching or burning
  • Improved comfort during sexual activity

With regular use, oxytocin gel may:

  • Thicken and heal vaginal tissue
  • Improve vaginal pH and elasticity
  • Reduce risk of recurrent irritation or infections
  • Provide ongoing relief with maintenance dosing
  • No blood work is required while using vaginal oxytocin.
  • Continue with your routine Pap smears and gynecological exams as recommended.

Oxytocin is typically well-tolerated.

Mild side effects may include:

  • Vaginal irritation, stinging, or itching
  • Rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, or dizziness
  • Headache, confusion, or signs of water retention
  • Known sensitivity to oxytocin or any gel ingredients
  • Let your provider know if you have a history of breast cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Use as indicated by your doctor.
  • Typically, use daily for 7–12 weeks, then reduce to 3–4 times weekly as symptoms improve
  • Apply before bed for best results
  • Avoid intercourse right after application to prevent transfer
  • Store in the refrigerator
  • Wash hands thoroughly after each use
  • Do not use tampons with the gel
